On March 23, the Institute of Deep Sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency successfully completed a month-long joint scientific expedition to the Java Trench. During this period, the "Exploration 1" scientific research vessel built and renovated by Wenchong, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Guangzhou Shipyard International, and the "Struggle" full-sea deep manned submersible designed and built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation 702, successfully dived 7178 meters, setting a new deep-sea diving record in Indonesia.
It is reported that "Exploration No. 1" was originally the "Offshore Oil 299" multi-functional operation ship. In 2016, it was repaired and transformed into a manned diving vessel by Wenchong, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Guangzhou Shipyard International. Work mother ship.
The ship has a total length of 94.45 meters, a width of 17.9 meters, a displacement of 6,250 tons, and a endurance of more than 10,000 nautical miles. In order to meet the upgrade requirements of the 10,000-meter manned submersible scientific expedition, Wenchong Construction has modified the "Exploration 1" scientific research vessel four times.
On November 10, 2020, "Exploration 1" and "Struggle" successfully landed in the Mariana Trench, reaching a depth of 10,909 meters, setting a Chinese manned deep diving record.
On March 11, 2023, the "Exploration 1" scientific research ship and the "Struggle" full-ocean deep manned submersible arrived in Sanya, successfully completing the world's first manned circumnavigation of Oceania. During the deep-diving scientific research voyage, the "Struggle" completed a total of 63 effective dive operations, four of which dived to a depth of more than 10,000 meters.
