Recently, the "Haigang Zhiyuan" owned by the world's largest methanol bunkering ship, owned by the Port Group, slowly docked with the world's first large-scale methanol-powered container ship "Annie Maersk" at the Yangshan Phase III Terminal. During the docking period, the "Haigang Zhiyuan" completed the " The full-process drill of ship-to-ship methanol fueling operations prepares for the subsequent formal implementation of methanol fueling. This marks Shanghai Port’s continuous new attempts to expand the application of new energy in the port and improve the layout of low-carbon facilities.
SIPG is committed to building a green port and building a new competitive edge. Energy conservation and emission reduction work continues to advance, and the construction of shore-based power supply facilities continues to be increased. At the end of last year, the shore-based power supply of the Shanghai Port Container Terminal was basically covered. Throughout the year, shore-based power supply was connected to 582 ships, and the power supply was 14.2 million kilowatt hours. The low-carbon transformation of the main equipment in the port area has been basically completed, the use of clean energy has increased year by year, and the low-carbon level of the port ranks among the top among major ports in the world.
In order to expand the application of new energy in ports, SIPG is actively building an Asia-Pacific ship clean energy bunkering center, and has successively introduced LNG (liquefied natural gas) bunkering ships and green methanol bunkering ships to expand its ocean capacity. Shan LNG receiving station storage tanks, and Yangshan Shengang methanol storage tanks were renovated; LNG bunkering services were implemented on a regular basis, and LNG bunkering was completed for 44 ships in 2023, with a total volume of 264,000 cubic meters. The group signed green methanol bunkering service agreements with liner companies such as Maersk, CMA CGM, and COSCO Shipping, and signed a memorandum of cooperation on the construction of a green methanol industry chain with COSCO Shipping, State Power Investment Corporation, and China Inspection and Quarantine, building the country’s first marine green methanol industry chain. Substantial steps have been taken, the transformation of the first green methanol bunkering ship has been completed, and the full-process "ship-to-ship" methanol fuel bunkering drill has been completed.
In order to better coordinate and integrate Hong Kong’s energy resources, an energy platform company was newly established in February this year as an integrated management platform for the company’s energy sector and the construction and operation entity of the green energy center. Efforts will be made to build a multiple green energy "storage, transmission and supply" chain in Shanghai Port to meet the green energy needs of international sailing ships during their voyages and in port, enhance Shanghai Port's ability to serve green and low-carbon shipping, and help build Shanghai's international shipping industry. A new pattern of center development. In addition, the Port of Shanghai and the Port of Los Angeles launched the world's first green shipping corridor initiative.
In the next step, SIPG will firmly seize the opportunities of digitalization, intelligence and greening, further improve the layout of new energy facilities in the port, enhance global shipping resource allocation capabilities, and empower Shanghai International Containers Hub port construction, and practical actions to solidly promote the major task of building an international shipping center in 2024.
